Frequently asked questions
Where do these FD rates come from?
Each rate is taken from the bank's own official website or rate card, for deposits below ₹3 crore. Every row links to the bank's page and shows the date of the rate card.
Why does a bank show different rates for 1, 2, 3 and 5 years?
Banks set rates by tenure band (for example '2 years to less than 3 years'). The table shows the rate for a deposit of exactly that period. Special tenures such as 444 or 555 days often carry a higher rate, shown in the 'Highest' column.
Do senior citizens get a higher rate?
Yes. Most banks add 0.50% for resident senior citizens (60+), and some add more for certain tenures or for super senior citizens. Switch to 'Senior citizen' to see those rates.
Is my money safe in a bank FD?
Deposits in all scheduled banks are insured by DICGC up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank, including interest. Consider this when placing larger amounts.
Is TDS deducted on FD interest?
Yes, if your total deposit interest in a bank crosses ₹50,000 in a financial year (₹1 lakh for senior citizens). If your income is below the taxable limit, submit Form 121 (earlier Form 15G/15H) to the bank.
